Friday Fun is a group post from the writers of the NHWN blog. Each week, we’ll pose and answer a different, get-to-know-us question. We hope you’ll join in by providing your answer in the comments.
QUESTION: What character did/can you most relate to in the sci-fi TV series (or movie version) for “Lost in Space“, and why? (John Robinson, Maureen Robinson, Judy Robinson, Penny Robinson, Will Robinson, Major Don West, Dr. Zachary Smith, or Robot)
Jamie Wallace: Definitely Penny. We share love for animals and classical music. Plus, I always liked the name “Penny.” I also think she was the best age for a space adventure – old enough to appreciate the adventure part while still young enough not to be too worried about the dangers. As long as she had her pet, she was pretty happy. Actually reminds me of my daughter who is never happier than when she’s communing with critters.
Lisa J. Jackson: For me it was Don. He was single and cute, (had to get that out of the way), but more it was his focus on his job. He was a bit of a nerd, too, and that intrigued me – the science behind running the space ship and fixing things when they broke, and trying trying trying to find a way to get back on track in outer space where there weren’t any roads or street signs. Will was my second favorite character – nice sense of himself and always had creative ideas for solving problems. He could think outside the box…and he wasn’t afraid of Robot.
Diane MacKinnon: I identified most with Will Robinson. I can’t imagine being stuck on a space station with the same people for years–I think having Will’s adventurous spirit would make the whole experience a lot more fun. Plus, it would be great to have a friendly robot looking out for me.

Deborah Lee Luskin: Oh, I’m so out of the loop – I never watched this show!

Susan Nye: Sorry – I’m with Deborah. I got nothing. Lost in Space was never on my list of must-watch TV.

Will Robinson for sticking his neck out and being smart. Dr. Smith was completely annoying. The parents too goody-goody stereotypical. Once, I sent away for an autograph from Will Robinson. It took months and months, but finally I got a fake photo with a fake autograph and a fake letter.
Ever since, every time someone mentions “Hollywood” or “celebrity”, that image comes to mind. Oh, the shattered dreams! LOL
But it wasn’t my favorite show anyway – I was more of a Wild Kingdom, Jacques Cousteau, Tarzan and Daktari kinda girl! And…let’s not forget the Wonderful World of Disney that was always on Sunday nights way back in the day! Much better than a sniveling Dr. Smith and a Robot that was always breaking down and waving his slinky-like arms around!
I have to say I watched the show and loved it… I know silly but I did. It was just so much fun. I also loved the responses to that question.

I still will wave my arms and say, “Danger Will Robinson!” I always liked the robot and Will heading out on some desolate landscape getting into some shenanigans. The doctor would usually try and dupe Will into sabotaging the mission. Maybe that was why the robot stayed close. At any rate, I enjoyed this show and as Laura mentioned above, Wild Kingdom Jacques Cousteau, Tarzan, Disney and my fave, “Lassie”, were staples on the TV back in the day.
