Events for Writers – Writers in the Spotlight Series

Quick, what does Concord, New Hampshire have in common with San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA?

They are all stops on Jonathan Frazen’s book tour in support of his new, critically acclaimed novel Freedom.

Frazen’s appearance will be the inauguration of the Writer’s In the Spotlight series, a co-presentation of Gibson’s Book Store and the Capitol Center for the Arts. Gibson’s features writer events every week, and had been trying for ages to bring a big name book tour to Concord. Publishers typically want in the vicinity of 250 attendees to bring a big name which is beyond Gibson’s space capabilities. Right down the street, Capital Center for the Arts is always searching for new opportunities to entertain, enlighten and educate. Bring them together and, the Writers in The Spotlight series was born.

Franzen will kick off the series next Thursday September 9th at 7pm in the Spotlight Cafe. Dennis Lehane is scheduled for November 3rd to discuss his book Moonlight Mile. Jodi Picoult is scheduled for April 6, 2011. Piccoult will joined by New Hampshire singer/songwriter Ellen Wilber. Wilber has created a CD of songs as a companion to Picoult’s 2011 release Sing You Home. Authors will be added to the schedule as arrangements are confirmed.

Tickets are $6 for Franzen and Lehane, and $9 for the Piccoult/Wilber event. They can be purchased at Gibson’s bookstore on Main Street in Concord, The Capital Center for the Arts Box Office or online.
